For those who do not believe that fables are tightly linked to reality, Castelfalfi is the place to go. The word “village” looks sometimes inappropriate to describe this tiny bunch of houses that stand in the middle of the Tuscan country some 45 km out Florence. A Romanic church, an old Castle and a little square surrounded by ancient buildings and a total of 18 residents (at least in 2001 they were officially registered in the number of eighteen) create a place where it’s easy to imagine fantastic characters going by. So easy that Italian director and actor Roberto Benigni chose to shoot here his movie dedicated to Pinocchio. Geppetto’s house is here, and the school where the stubborn puppet doesn’t want to go is here, not to mention the street Pinocchio goes through once arrested and escorted by carabinieri.
